Metal Accelerated Photonics Lite Engine
Real physics. Native speed.
Maple is Elyon's photonics solver: 2D & 3D FDTD, an FDE mode solver, and EME — GPU-first on Apple silicon, with the same physics code running on plain CPUs anywhere. It ships free as the zero-install engine inside Lumicron, and it's going open source when it's ready.
The engine
Serious physics, packaged like good software.
Most solvers assume a cluster, a license server, and a lot of patience. Maple assumes the machine in front of you. The full simulation loop runs locally — no queue, no upload — and it talks to Lumicron through clean, engine-neutral interfaces, so your setups aren't married to any one solver.
Metal-first, CPU-everywhere
GPU kernels on Apple silicon via MLX — and the exact same physics code falls back to plain CPU on any machine.
FDTD — 2D & 3D
Yee-grid time domain with CPML absorbing boundaries, soft and mode sources, and flux and mode monitors.
FDE mode solver
TE and TM waveguide modes: effective index, field profiles, group index, and chromatic dispersion.
EME
Eigenmode expansion with S-matrix cascading — built for long, piecewise structures.
S-parameters out
Directional mode monitors deliver honest S-parameters, not just pretty field pictures.
Validated physics
Every solver is checked against known analytic solutions before it ships. Physics first, features second.
